{"id":2,"date":"2008-07-24T05:00:47","date_gmt":"2008-07-24T09:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pworldrworld.com\/fred\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-08-22T17:19:44","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T16:19:44","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pworldrworld.com\/fred\/?page_id=2","title":{"rendered":"CV\/Contacts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I grew up in Ireland in the 60s and 70s.\u00a0 After some prevarication, I trained as a general nurse in Heidelberg, Germany, graduating in 1985.\u00a0 My first son, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oscarv.be\/\">Oscar<\/a>, was born in 1987.\u00a0 I obtained a B.A. in Computer Science, Linguistics and German from Trinity College Dublin in 1991.\u00a0 Postgraduate study took me to the <a href=\"http:\/\/cogs.indiana.edu\/\">Cognitive Science program at Indiana University<\/a>, which had a fantastically dynamic environment, in more ways than one.\u00a0 My second son, <a href=\"http:\/\/swcomix.com\/\">Jack<\/a>, was born in 1995. An M.A. in Linguistics in 1996, and a PhD with joint major in Cognitive Science and Linguistics in 1997 were the fruits of my time in Bloomington.\u00a0 My thesis was an experimental study of English speech rhythm, and it tried to establish commonalities in the form of coordination seen in rhythmic speech and in movement of the limbs, drawing on the coordination dynamics of Scott Kelso.
