Gibson’s theory of Ecological Psychology has had a contentious existence on the left flank of Psychology, but its time has come. Gibson’s theory of affordances is the best worked account of what I mean by We see what we see by virtue of what we are. Unfortunately, most interpretations of "affordance" are very shallow. Our entire perception of an object is constituted by what that object means to us.
