Welcome to the P-World project

You are probably not a character in a work of fiction. If so, then you experience the world in the first person. You have a subjective realm of experience. This should not come as a surprise.

Nothing in our scientific discourse has anything rational to say about this simple state of affairs. That may come as a surprise.  Philosophy, of course, has lots to say (Personal Identity and Ethics).

The P-world project is an attempt to deal with this conundrum in three overlapping ways.

Rationally: The discussion here, under pworldrworld.com, seeks to develop the concepts, both scientific and philosophical, required to accommodate subjective experience within a rational world view. It is work within the domain of Cognitive Science. You can read some short papers on the topic here, or see the videos below from an informal talk on the subject. (And the inevitable blog.)

Practically: A sister site, The Pink Monkey Farm, seeks to explore the same territory, but with an eye on the consequences for how we live. At present this involves establishing links between Cognitive Science and some strands of Eastern Philosophy. Later, it will grow towards the development of a view of the relationship between the individual and the collective.

Hedonistically: Another site, The Church of the Stone Pharisee is a venue for informal, hedonistic, even shamanistic exploration of the same themes. It is not to be taken too seriously, but these topics can be approached in many, varied, ways.

An Informal Talk on Subjective Experience

Thanks to my good friends of the Alchemist Cafe in Dublin, I gave a short (25 mins) talk to a general audience in a Dublin pub. Recordings were made.
